The figure is the lowest in the world, according to statistics from the European Commission.
– It’s n saysice to be at number one in this list, although I wish that it was unnecessary,  Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen.
The EU average was 51.5 people losing their lives in traffic per million inhabitants, which means that the mortality rate in traffic in Norway is roughly half of what it is in the EU.
– We have never before had such a low number of fatalities on Norwegian roads as the one we had last year. I am proud of the road safety work we do in Norway, says Solvik-Olsen.
The government is  preparing past a parliamentary report on road safety. According to the Transport Minister this is meant to provide even better coordination between the players in the road safety work.
