Norway will follow the lead of EU and remove most of the sanctions against Belarus.

Norway will liquidate the restrictive measures towards Belarus which the EU now will abolish, Communications Astrid Sehl of the Foreign Ministry said.
Norway have imposed the same sanctions  as EU toward the authoritarian former Soviet republic.
At Monday’s meeting of foreign ministers of the EU the countries decided that many of of the sanctions will not be extended.
– Belarus is showing a positive trend that we want to encourage, head of the EU foreign office Federica Mogherini said according to news agency AFP.
Belarus welcomes the announcement and described it as an important step towards a normalization of relations with the EU.

Lukashenko goes free
The sanctions against President Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled Belarus with an iron fist since 1994, will not be extended. Neither will the sanctions against around 170 other Belarusian Russian officials and three Belarusian companies.
These sanctions were suspended in October last year, in an attempt by the EU to improve relations with Lukashenko and his regime.
But the long-standing arms embargo against Belarus remain untouched. The same applies to the sanctions against four Belarusian nationals suspected of being responsible for the disappearance of several political dissidents.
