Norway shared a statement with the United States and Britain expressing concern that the military transitional council in Sudan had attacked civilian protesters.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide of Høyre (H) came out on Tuesday night after the military junta in Sudan had broken off negotiations with the civilian protesters in the country about a transition to a civilian regime. At least 40 people have been killed since Monday, when security forces took action against protesters according to doctors affiliated with the protest movement.
‘’The military transitional council has jeopardised a peaceful transition to civilian rule in Sudan. The Foreign Minister said that the attacks on peaceful protesters and other civilians in Sudan are unacceptable and urged the parties to return to the negotiating table’’ stated the press release from the Foreign Ministry.
The actual statement from the United States, Britain and Norway stated that the three countries condemn the attacks against peaceful protesters on the 3rd of June.
‘’By ordering these attacks, the Military Transitional Council have endangered the process of civilian rule and peace in Sudan. We call for a reconciled transition to civilian rule which the people of Sudan have requested’’ said the statement.
