The Norwegian mountaineer Siv Harstad (45) struggles to come down from Mount Everest alive, after becoming snow blind when she alone reached the peak of the world’s highest mountain.
Harstad arrived at the top on Thursday. One extra climbing Sherpa was sent, and two of the most experienced Nepali climbers helped her down to the first camp, said Harstad’s contact person Kathy Anne Hansen to NRK news.
According to NRK, Harstad still has several thousand meters left to climb down. The biggest challenge is getting over a 600 meter high ice waterfall with several crevasses and dramatic formations that are constantly changing.
– Ladders and ropes have been placed to balance on. Whether she has managed to get over this terrain is not known yet, says Hansen Friday afternoon.
Harstad, who is from Møre og Romsdal, is the first Norwegian woman to have climbed the Mount Everest alone from the south.
