After an unfortunate tweet from UDI about chess, expulsion of refugees and family reunion on Wednesday night, there were several people who responded sharply.

‘Let me know if we should expel some white pieces (Castle a6), or should the black runner be granted family reunion with the king, #nrksjakk (#nrkchess)’, tweeted UDI on Wednesday night, as Magnus Carlsen fought against Sergey Karjakin on the chessboard.

After the tweet had been released for a while, some people began to comment, wondering whether the account had been hacked.

‘It isn’t a case of hacking. Unfortunately, one of our own people made an attempt to be humorous, but totally missed the mark.

We can only apologize, it’s that simple’, said Ingeborg Grimsmo, Communications Director of Immigration to the news agency, NTB.

After she was made aware of the tweet, the UDI updated their message account with ‘we regret that the supposedly humorous previous message was sent out incorrectly.’

Responses to the UDI’s unfortunate tweet came thick and fast, ‘Shall the whole state apparatus now become a stage for verbal abuse or satire?’ and ‘Suggest that you rather use the wait between moves to process some applications. #mangeventer (#manywait)’ were among the comments UDI received in reply to the tweet.
