Norwegian woman sentenced to life for genocide in Rwanda

A 44 year-old woman with Norwegian citizenship was sentenced to life in prison for genocide in Rwanda, where the woman was born.

 

“My client was sentenced to life in prison for the call for genocide” said the woman’s defence lawyer, Evelyn Egeli,to TV 2.

The 44 year-old has always claimed she is innocent of the charges.Egeli said that they are preparing for an appeal.

The woman came to Norway in 1999 and was arrested during a visit to her native country in 2017. She has since been in custody in the country. The woman has three
children living in Norway wrote the channel.

According to the judgment, the woman was pointed out by witnesses who participated in acts of violence during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

Around 800,000 Tutsi’s and moderate hutu’s were killed by government forces and Hutu militia during the genocide in Rwanda in a matter of three months.
