Former Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama believes the Nobel committee took “the right decision” by awarding the Peace Prize to Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos.

The US President believes that the prize is well deserved.

– The Nobel Committee made the right move to reward the tireless efforts he has made to bring a just and lasting peace to Colombia, said Obama.

– This award is a recognition of President Santos’ steadfast and courageous leadership through years of difficult negotiations.

Many reacted with surprise when the Nobel Committee in 2009 decided to give the peace prize to Obama, just months after he was inaugurated as president.

This year’s Nobel Peace Prize, which was announced Friday, was also surprising.

Several have responded that the prize was not shared between the government and the other party in the peace talks, the FARC guerrillas.

In addition, the prize was awarded just days after the Colombian people chose to vote down the peace agreement that Santos had negotiated.

– Democratic lineage from this week is a reminder that there is still work to achieve the future that President Santos and so many residents endeavors, says Obama.
