US President Barack Obama plans to visit Cuba in a few weeks.

The president said in December that he would visit Cuba as part of the resumption of diplomatic relations and increased trade among the two countries. Now it looks like the visit could take place as early as in the first quarter.
– The president has said he wants to go if the conditions are correct,  a spokesperson for the government says.
Obama told Yahoo News in an interview in December that he hoped he would get the opportunity to visit Cuba in 2016, but only if  suficcient progress had been made in the diplomatic relationship and if he gets the chance to meet dissidents who can be of help in ” poking the Cuban government in a new direction. ”
In December 2014  Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro surprised the international community by announcing that they would normalize their relationship after 54 years as opponents.
