One in eight Norwegian pensioners have experienced age discrimination, according to a survey from the Pensioners’ Association. The Association requests a ban on it and a reporting system.
– It is perceived as particularly unfair to be treated differently because one is too old, says leader Jan Davidsen from the Pensioners’ Association to newspaper Dagbladet. The union believes age should be part of the new Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act, on an equal line as with ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual orientation, religion and belief.
The Children and Equality Department has not yet decided whether protection against age discrimination will be extended from the Work Act to all areas of society.
– We aim to promote the bill on common Equality and Discrimination Parliament in early 2017, says adviser Ron Røste (FRP) said.
