Several dogs in the Oslo area have died after being infected with an up to now still unknown disease.

The disease manifests itself through bloody diarrhea and / or vomiting as well as rapidly deteriorating general condition, writes the animal clinic chain AniCura in a press release.

Several of the dogs have had a course of illness of up to 24 hours from the symptoms have appeared until death occurred.

To date, they know of at least six deaths that are probably related to the infection. Many dogs are admitted with similar symptoms.

They do not yet know if it is a virus or bacterium that is causing the disease, but believe the rapid course may indicate that it is a virus. AniCura is now investigating samples to find the infectious agent.

The infected dogs have stayed in areas in central Oslo, Iladalen, Frognerparken, Bygdøy and Vettakollen.

The chain encourages dogs to stay away from parks, dog parks and large gathering points with dogs for a period to come.
