304 rape victims received compensations from the Criminal Injuries Compensation last year. Never before have so many received compensation after being raped.
85 of the 304 cases were dropped by the police because of insufficient evidence, reports TV2.
Trine Rjukan is a counsel in many rape cases and several of her clients have experienced that their case has been dropped.
– In these cases the court often doesn’t have much to go on except the opposing statements of the victim and the person or persons charged with the crime, and the burden of proof is high in criminal cases. But that’s also why it means so much to the victims to receive compensation. It gives them a feeling of being taken seriously and can bring them a sense of closure, she says.
