With the help of Norway’s first and only pink fire truck, fire fighters in Hurum in Buskerud have collected over NOK 400,000 for cancer prevention.

In 2017, the Hurum fire department procured a pink fire truck in order to highlight the cancer danger to firefighters and to raise money for cancer research.

The collaboration with the Norwegian Cancer Society has now ended, and on Tuesday, the Secretary General of the Cancer Society, Anne Lise Ryel, received a gift check of just over NOK 417,000.

The municipality will now restore the truck to its original yellow colour.

Research from several countries has shown that firefighters have a somewhat higher risk for some forms of cancer than the average population.
