The aid organization Plan Norway believes child marriages is the most important issue in the world. Every year, 15 million girls are married before the age of 18.

The number of child marriages in the world is going down, says Secretary General of Plan Norway, Kjell Erik Øye to NRK news.

– We now see that the number of girls who are married before the age of 18, has declined, but Bangladesh is one of  the delinquent countries, he said.

The changes are due to a combination of working with legislation and mobilizing young people themselves to deal with child marriage, according to Øye.

– We are also looking at areas where we ourselves are working in Bangladesh, we have managed to reduce the number from 70 percent and down to 20 percent, he said.
