The governor in Svalbard had to euthanize one  polar bear with a weight of 116 kg after it was wounded by a Finnish tour company on Saturday, according to a statement by the governor.

Four Finnish men found themselves at Verlegenhuken north of Spitsbergen when they met the bear on Saturday morning. According to the men, they first fired warning shots in order to scare the male bear, but then shot it with a rifle when it returned.
The bear has now been transported to Longyearbyen for autopsy, the Chief Inspector of the governor, Christian Svarstad, said to the newspaper Svalbardposten. The police will investigate the matter further.
