Police believe the person who was found dead after a fire in Kolbotn on Saturday night, was a woman in her 70’s who lived in the apartment.
‘The autopsy will give us a definite answer, but we assume that the deceased is an elderly lady in her 70s who lived there’, said operations manager, Vigdis Sjøvik Olsen, of the Eastern Police District, to news agency NTB.
The fire department went out after a notification of smoke in an apartment in a three
storey block in Plogsvingen at 23:30 on Saturday night.
At approximately midnight they notified police that they had evacuated all the residents in the apartments in the vicinity of the fire. At 01.00 on Sunday morning the fire was extinguished.
Ten people were evacuated, but only six could return home during the night. The fire caused smoke damage in several of the apartments.
‘Some evacuees who lived in apartments above and below the one that burned had to take accommodation in hotels. There is one residence on the block that is not yet habitable’, said Olsen.
Police and fire brigade believe that the fire originated in the kitchen of the elderly woman’s apartment. The cause of the blaze is not yet determined.
‘Forensic technicians (Krimteknikere) will investigate further. The fire burned most of the kitchen, so we assume that it may have started there’, said Olsen.
