The Police Directorate will endeavor to bring about a quick clarification about the new passport rules that may lead to thousands being listed with unknown birthplace.
On Monday, the Police Directorate held a dialogue with several stakeholders about the controversial new passport rules.
No changes were decided on after the meeting, but the case will now be considered further, NTB illuminated.
“We had a good and constructive meeting with organizations and received several suggestions. We will take these with us in the effort to find a solution. We see that the situation has unintended consequences for many, and we are keen to bring about a quick resolution,” said Acting Head of Department Astrid Borge in the Police Directorate.
The new guidelines mean that people born in countries where data on place of birth can not be verified will be listed as having an unknown place of birth on their passport.
The change has aroused strong reactions, and Ministry of Justice has asked the Police Directorate to ‘clean up the case as quickly as possible.’
