The speedometer in the police car was showing 190 km/h when the patrol attempted to overtake a blazingly fast sports car on highway E10 over Herjangsmountain in Nordland. Still  the  car managed to escape. Now the  sportscar driver has been sentenced to prison.
A man in his mid-20s from Narvik has been sentenced to three weeks imprisonment by Ofoten District Court   for fleeing from the police. He now also has to manage without a driver’s license the next two years, and has to take the driving test again,  the local newspaper Fremover writes.
The matter was settled by judicial examination and  a verdict based on the confession.
The reckless driving he is now convicted of, happened on the afternoon of 17 June last summer. The man came from Evenes airport  heading towards Narvik. He gave full throttle with the car, a sports car with a horse power of more than 500 under the hood and a top speed of more than 300 km / h. Police followed on his “heels” with the blue lights flashing but had to give up the chase when the speedometer was 190 km/h.
Based on the current regulations for these kinds of speed measurements, with display errors and safety margins also taken into consideration, the Ofoten District Court has opted to sentence the man for speeding at 171 km / h in a 90 zone.
The court found no mitigating circumstances, and the driver was aware that he was being persecuted by the police. In addition, to reckless driving, he was convicted of driving the same car without a license  one and ahalf month later.
