Police say ‘’we are seeing ever less respect from youth’’

The police recognised themselves in the debate about police officer Hassan Ali, who wrote that many ethnic minority youths show a lack of respect for the police.

Ali, who is a policeman and board member of the Islamic Council of Norway, wrote on Saturday to the debate, “dear minority youth, stop calling my colleagues racist!” in VG newspaper.

He said that many ethnic minority youths in Oslo show distrust and lack of respect for the police, for example by stamping police officers as racists or showing them their middle finger.

Leader, Kristin Aga of the Oslo Police Association said many police officers in Oslo are familiar with the debate.

‘’Police officers and women are experiencing ever-decreasing respect from youth milieu’s’’ Ali wrote.

‘’We also see that they are younger, and many have a different ethnic background than Norwegian. When one sees this type of lack of respect for the police, it is a social problem’’ Aga told VG.

Aga believes the problem may come from the fact that the police do not have the resources to talk to young people, unless they have done something wrong. At the same time, she called for both politicians and parents to get on the track.

Minister of Justice, Jøran Kallmyr of Fremskrittsparti (Frp) emphasised that police resources against juvenile delinquency are a priority area for the government.

‘’A big part of the challenge is that young people who act out this behaviour often come from cultures where the police behave differently than in Norway. This is also an integration problem’’ he said.

Hei. The problem is to way. We cannot say all polices are angels. I have met many police officers who called me “names” due to my ethnoc bakground. The problem is both with police and the youths. But through what i passed through i will never trust norwegian pol8ce weather he or he from whatever etnicity.

Honestly, no one respects the police anymore.
    And why should they?
They take «hate crime» aka someone beeing or feeling insulted more serious than real crime..
The police, journalists and politicians are all a joke at this point.
