34 organizations gathered in front of Parliament on Thursday in protest against the government’s proposal for a temporary residence for children who flee to Norway alone.

The Government proposes granting unaccompanied asylum seekers a temporary residence permit until they turn 18, regardless of age and whether there is a need for protection. Only when they become of age, will they get to know if they can stay in the country.
“It is well documented that living with a temporary permit like this robs children of the joy of life, making them sick. No child should have to live like that,” says Tove Wang, Secretary General of Save the Children.
Save the Children, together with 33 other organizations, like the Red Cross, UNICEF Norway and several youth parties, strongly disagree with the government proposal.
During the vote, Thursday at 9, the organizations asked members of Parliament to vote no to the proposal.
