The customs officers at the airport have confiscated 225 kg of khat, this is is the largest single confiscation ever made in Norway.
Usually the khat being seized by the customs officers has been fresh khat, but recently they have also often confiscated dried khat, which normally are shipped from Hong Kong.
– If you compare it with fresh khat, it’s three times stronger, Hans Wilhelmsen, office manager at the border control section at Gardermoen, told NRK.
The Customs Administration’s own laboratory has tested the dried khat.
People have for centuries used khat in Africa and Asia.
The substances in khat work in the same way as cocaine and amphetamines, but is not quite as strong.
