Red Cross believes the state of readiness for blood donations  in Norway is too poor. Because of this the  charity calls on 30,000 new blood donors to sign up on the  Blood Donor Day of the World on Tuesday.

June 14 is the Blood Donor Day of the World. The state of readiness for blood donations is not good enough, and because of this Red Cross asks for more people tr register as blood donor.
– The registration of new blood donors may take several weeks, and which means that they won’t be of much help in emergency situations. We need 30,000 more who are already registered before we get an eventual emergency situation which requires lot of blood donors. That can save lives,  general manager of the Red Cross Blood Program, Tor Ole Bergan, says.
Cancer treatment, accidents, surgeries, blood disorders and burns account for most of the  consumption of the donated blood, and there will be an increasing need for this  in the years ahead.
– The population is growing older, and we get new medical advances requiring blood transfusions,  Bergan says.
