The relationship between Russia and the USA is the worst since 1973, according to the Russian UN ambassador Vitalij Tsjurkin.
In 1973, the Jom Kippur War started in the Middle East. The USA supported Israel, while the Soviet Union supported Egypt and Syria. “The relation between the two countries is bad in my opinion, probably the worst since 1973”, says Tsjurkin.
According to historians, the risk of war between nuclear powers USA and Soviet Union was at its highest since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 during the Jom Kippur War. One of the causes of the tense relation between the USA and Russia today is that the countries support different parties in the civil war in Syria.
