Rio Olympics opened with environmental message

The climate challenges facing the world, played an important role during the opening ceremonies of the Rio Olympics.

The entrance to the Rio Games has been characterized by much noise. Friday night Norwegian time, however the issues were put on hold and the party started at the legendary Maracana stadium.

Brazil’s passion for music and dance had a central place in the program, but the opening ceremony also was marked by serious. Climate change, environmental challenges and deforestation was the theme throughout the evening.

Climate

Ole Kristian Bryhn was flag bearer and led the Norwegian team out on the mighty feild as 140 fellow athletes did also. country by country in succession. The athletes all brought a seed and a capsule with soil into the arena.

They should be planted in a park in Deodoro, where  shooting and mountain biking will be held. The new park will have 207 tree species, one for each of the delegations at the Olympics.
