The Crown Prince and Princess joined a delayed celebration of Kragerø’s 350th anniversary on Wednesday.
One of the things they saw was the planned national park on Jomfruland, in glorious weather.
Before Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit took the boat to the island with the famous pebble beach, they got a tour of Kragerø art school.
In addition, they saw students from the municipal art school perform music by Mozart – and Beyoncé.
Fish soup for lunch
The lunch took place at Tower Wharf on Jomfruland, where the royals were served fish soup.
The Kragerø anniversary was on July 12th, but the Crown Prince and Princess did not have the opportunity to appear, emphasized Crown Princess Mette Marit in a speech.
She pulled out a lot of good personal memories of Kragerø archipelago.
– As Southerner I have a weakness for places that lives two different lives throughout the year: Bustling summers with lots of people and lovely, quiet autumn when everyone has gone, she said.
Impulses from outside
– Kragerø history is a story about Norway as a shipping and timber nation. It is a tale of industries in change and the need for new grip when core businesses closed down.
It is a story about life in a port city – where the population through generations have learned to absorb impulses, valuing diversity, to meet the foreign with an open mind, said the Crown Princess.
– There’s this story you translate into practical action when you are accepting refugees from Syria – and other war-torn areas – and lets them feel at home, she continued.
