Russian authorities believe the Globus II radar in Vardø will become part of the US missile defense and promise retribution if the modernization is completed.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, made the warning during a press briefing on Wednesday, state-run Russian media RT.com reports.

“There is every reason to believe that the radar will monitor Russia’s territory and become part of the United States’ global missile defense network,” said Zakharova.

She warns that Russia will not leave “military preparations” close to the country’s borders unanswered and that the country will take action to repay this – without detailing on how they plan on doing this.

According to NRK, American families have settled in Vardø in connection with the upgrading of intelligence against Russia.
