Over 70 percent of Norwegian heavy transport drivers admitted to using social media and mobile phone or  ipasa or other tablets while they’re behind the wheel or are supposed to rest, according to a new report.

In a survey Truck Owners Association has conducted in cooperation with If P & C, it emerged that over 70 percent of Norwegian professional drivers break the law by using the mobile phone or social media while driving,  TV2 news reports.
– This is a serious social problem. It is a serious road safety problem that people use their mobile phone or ipad while behind the wheel. It’s quite out of place. And  people have to stop doing this. It is dangerous,  CEO of Norwegian Truck Owners Association, Geir A. Mo, says to TV 2.
In addition, the survey shows that many professional drivers use breaks to catch up on social media instead of resting.
– We are afraid that it leads to too many sleepy drivers, and we see quite a few accidents that are not so easy to explain, says Executive Director Ivar Martinsen If P TV2.
