A dog was dragged behind a car in Haugesund  for nearly two kilometers  on Sunday morning. The owner did not discover that the dog was tied to the car and the police had to institute a search for him.
At about 10:40 a witness who was driving on Skjoldavegen in Haugesund became aware that a dog was caught on the tape in the tailgate of the vehicle ahead. The driver did not stop, despite the fact that the witness tried to signal that something was wrong.
After a few minutes the collar that the dog was hanging by went to pieces, and the driver drove on. The witness took care of the dog and contacted the police, who immediately called for the dog owner. The person was found at 14.30, and the driver of the car turned out to be the same person who owns the dog.
– The combination of good witnesses and decent police work lead to us getting a hold of him. We have received an explanation of events, and it’s been made clear that it was an accident. It was not done with the intent to cause harm, operations manager Trond Friborg in South Western Police Distric says to the news agency NTB.
Friborg states that the dog, which is of the breed shetland sheepdog, was towed half to two kilometers while being caught in the tailgate of the vehicle. He expects that it is going to survive.
– The dog is at the vet and gets good care there. The vet was intent on treating and not killing the dog, the operational manager says.
