Norwegian parents, especially those with lower incomes, feel pressurised into buying  mobile phones, clothes, school bag, sports equipment and shoes for the children. One in four parents give in and pays up.

Purchasing pressure varies amongst different age groups and is perceived to be the greatest for parents of secondary school students. Here seven out of ten feels a certain pressure to buy, according to figures from a survey conducted by Respons Analyse for DNB.

Amongst parents with household income of less than 600,000 per year , eight out of ten experience purchasing pressure.

– I think it’s sad that so many parents feel that way. This means of course that many children probably feel the same, says consumer economist Nigel Sandmæl DNB to news agency NTB.
