Prime Minister Erna Solberg reacted strongly to the fact that US President,Donald Trump, drew back the country’s support for G7’s final statement.

The US president basically supported the final declaration, like the other G7 countries, but then turned abruptly because he was dissatisfied with statements by Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau after the summit.

The next day, the Norwegian prime minister was not particularly impressed with Trump’s performance.

“The United States loses political influence in the rest of the world, and they also lose position as a centrepiece in efforts to find global joint mechanisms and set the agenda,” Solberg told NRK news.

At the same time, she emphasised that the United States will always be a powerful country to which the rest of the world must relate.

‘’The United States as a country is big and heavy. It is the world’s richest country,it is the world’s largest military force, and it is one of the world’s most innovative countries. Through its technology and its solutions, and throughout the vast American population, it will be a heavy country in all international processes anyway,’’ said the prime minister.

“But just the administration that is in Washington now, I’ve set something aside about this,” she added.
