The most important thing we can do is to ensure people a job, Prime Minister Erna Solberg said in her speech from the “Trontaledebatten”  in Parliament. She says she sees positive signs in the economy.

– Nevertheless, we must not believe that the challenges are over. The job now is to prevent unemployment sustaining a high level, as it did when Labor ruled in the 90s, said Solberg.

She was criticized for weakness in the face of rising unemployment by Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre, but came with a counter-attack to their main points.

– Labour Party representatives seem to have lost focus in their speech points where both record high oil prices after 2010 and the sharp fall in 2014 is completely forgotten, said Solberg, referring to the Norwegian economy facing major restructuring needs when her government took over.

The Prime Minister added that the challenges require a willingness to change.

– It requires political courage and leadership. Not vacillation, confusion and resistance,  she said.
