Solberg and Santos have discussed the peace process in Colombia

Prime Minister Erna Solberg has discussed the process to peace with Nobel laureate Juan Manuel Santos, and she promised that Norway will continue to contribute to efforts to achieve peace in Colombia.

– President Santos and I have met several times. This has been a special occasion and it has been a pleasure to personally congratulate him on the Peace Prize, said Solberg in a joint press conference with Santos on Sunday.

– We have also discussed the peace process and the new agreement with the FARC.
It will be a challenge to implement the agreement, but it is encouraging to see the broad support for peace in Colombia, continued the Prime Minister.

Solberg said that it is now up to the people and the various political actors to make sure to build on the peace agreement, she added Norway will continue to contribute to the peace process in Colombia.

The two heads of state also discussed the peace process with Colombia’s second largest guerrilla group ELN.

– Norway is also concerned about the role of the facilitator there and we hope the process will start as soon as possible, said Solberg.
