Erna Solberg thinks it is sad to lose a female head of government in Europe, but understands that the British Prime Minister, Theresa May is now withdrawing.

May announced on Friday that she was leaving as the Conservative Party leader on June 7.

“I think it is a sad that I lose a female colleague in Europe,” says Solberg to NTB.

“I have had good cooperation with Theresa, but realize that she has a difficult political situation and has done her best to solve brexit. When it has been so demanding to gather a political majority for a model for brexit, it is understandable that she chooses to leave,” says the Norwegian Prime Minister.

She believes May has long been a strong politician in the UK.

“I’ve known her since she was an interior minister. She is a clear politician and was ready in her fight against terror. I am particularly grateful for the anti-slavery work bans that Britain took a lead on under her leadership,” says Solberg.
