Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) visited NATO Trident Juncture in Røros and Rena on Saturday morning.

Around 50,000 soldiers from 31 nations are participating in NATO’s largest military exercise since 2002, which is held in Norway from 25 October to 7 November. In addition, the exercise brings together 250 aircraft, 65 ships and 10,000 land vehicles.

Saturday morning, Prime Minister and Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen (H) met with NATO Admiral James Foggo, Chief of Trident Juncture. Followed by visits to the North Brigade and tank squadrons in the Røros area.

The program also featured a meeting with multinational forces in Rena, consisting of soldiers from mainly Germany, Norway and the Netherlands.

The NATO exercise is the largest that has been in Norway since the end of the Cold War. The purpose of the military exercise is to train collective defense and the relocation of large military forces in difficult weather conditions.

Russia’s embassy in Norway has protested against the NATO exercise and believes it is of an anti-Russian nature. The Embassy indicates that the participants during the exercise are training under climatic conditions that are very similar to Russia’s climate.
