228 asylum seekers came to Norway in November. This is amongst the lowest arrival figures for a single month so far this year and the lowest level in nearly 20 years.
In April and May we saw respectively 229 and 227 applications for asylum. This is the lowest level since 1997. In total, this year there have been 3,051 asylum seekers coming to Norway, according to figures Directorate of Immigration (UDI) presented Monday.
Applicants are from 105 different countries, but over half of the 3,000 came from just five countries: Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq and Somalia.
Around 10 per cent of the applicants have stated that they are unaccompanied minors.
Last year, the proportion of unaccompanied minors was 17 percent.
5200 applications left
By the end of November, there was a total of 14,910 residents in the Norwegian asylum centers. This is under half the number of last year’s end.
About 15 percent have received a final rejection of their application and issued with an obligation to leave, whilst 13 per cent are awaiting their appeal results.
One in three are waiting to be allocated to a municipality, while 5,200 people are waiting for the application to be processed.
In total UDI has processed 21,704 applications for asylum during this year’s first eleven months. The granting ratio is 53 percent, the same as last year.
That means 11,721 people have been granted residence permits in Norway. Nearly two out of three in this group are Syrians, and around 15 percent are from Eritrea.
