The trip turned expensive for a Swedish man who tried to cross the border at Ørje in Østfold. Customs officers  found 1.500 liters of beer in his car and also large amounts of liquor and cigarettes.

The man was stopped just before 1 o’clock on Saturday night. He can expect a hefty fine.
– Yes, he will get a big fine. For a seizure of this size it will be at about 70,000 kroner,  operations manager Martin Schie at East police said to the news agency NTB.
The man tried to dodge paying a duty of 104,692 kroner in total. He had 1,504 liters of beer, 7.5 liters of spirits and 570 cigarettes in the fully loaded van.
– We assume that this was not for personal use, but for resale,  says the operational manager.
He adds that this was a large seizure, but not unusually so. In Østfold Police District seizures of this size or  even larger are made almost daily.
