The cruise company Viking canceled their ship baptism in Oslo after the boat accident in Budapest

The Norwegian-owned cruise company Viking’s new ship, Viking Jupiter, was scheduled to be baptized in Oslo on 6 June. The ceremony is now canceled as a result of the boat accident in Hungary.

“It was with a heavy heart we were told about the deeply tragic event in Budapest. Our of respect and compassion for the victims and their families, we have decided to cancel the baptism of Viking Jupiter on June 6,” says the owner Torstein Hagen in Viking Ocean Cruises.

Seven South Korean tourists have been found dead after the collision near the famous Margaret Bridge in Budapest, while 21 are still missing. The Norwegian-owned river cruise boat Viking Sigyn collided with a tourist boat late last Wednesday night, 29th of May. The tourist boat capsized and sank.

The captain of the Norwegian-owned river cruise boat, a 64-year-old man from Ukraine, was charged in the case on Saturday.

Viking Jupiter is the sixth ship of the Viking company, which is registered in NIS – Norwegian international ship register – and flies a Norwegian flag.
