The Frigate is sinking lower into the water

The Frigate KNM «Helge Ingstad» is significantly lower in the water than it was yesterday, the Norwegian Coastal Authority confirms to VG. It appears to be sinking.

– As far as I have understood, it is the radar tower and parts of the stern that is still above water. Press Contact for the Coastal Authority, Pål Are Lilleheim, states.

Several steel wires have snapped during the night, the newspaper writes.

Lilleheim confirms to Dagbladet that several mooring wires have snapped, but he does not know the exact number.
– We are working to get an overview of the situation and are in a dialogue with the Norwegian Armed Forces, he states.

– The wording I have received is that the Frigate is deeper in the water. That indicates that it has slipped a little further into deeper waters, he explains. At the same time, he stresses that it does not indicate increased leakage.

On Monday, the press was allowed to get closer to the Frigate, which lies wrecked in the Hjelte Fjord after colliding with a tanker on Thursday last week.

Then the Navy assured that the vessel was well secured and stable.

The Armed Forces will hold a press conference at 11 am at the Naval base Haakonsvern in Bergen.

Pictures published by the Coastal Authority on Monday morning show that the frigate has almost disappeared below the water.

The sea floods later today

Shortly after the collision with the tanker TS «Sola», the Navy beached KNM «Helge Ingstad» to prevent the Frigate from sinking in the Hjelte Fjord.

Then they were then worried about how stable the vessel would be when the water began to rise at flooding.

Now that the frigate is even deeper in the water, that may pose a challenge yet again.

According to a table on the pages of the Norwegian Maps Authority, the water will continue to rise throughout the day.

State Meteorologist, Mette Skjerdal, confirms to NRK that the water level around the Frigate will rise until between 2 and 3 pm.

– The sea level will not be exceptionally high, but more or less at the same level as in the last few days, Skjerdal informs.
