“We hardly understand that you have time to visit with us,” said King Harald when he and the Queen visited the Askøy Municipality on Thursday.

Over the past few weeks, over 2,000 people have become ill from the drinking water. A total of 76 people have had to be hospitalized.

During the royal couple’s county trip to Hordaland, they met with the citizens who were hit by the water crisis.

“We have paid close attention to what has happened on Askøy, and we feel with you. We can imagine your insecurity and frustration. We understand their concerns and pain,” King Harald said in his speech.

He was impressed with the handling of the situation by the people, and praised the community and the volunteer community within the island community.

“We can hardly comprehend that you all have made the time to visit with us. We know how much work and worries lie behind this. And that you have things and other very important things to do.

The royal couple were informed about the water situation at the municipality by the deputy mayor, Bård Espelid. On Tuesday, the NRK deputy chairman said that the number of people who have become ill with infection from the water has been significantly reduced recently.
