Askøy community receives 35,000 liters of water from the Armed Forces. Around 2,000 people have become ill as a result of the drinking water in the municipality.

“The water comes from a surplus stock from the NATO exercise Trident Juncture, which was held in Norway last fall,” says Vice Chairman Bjørn Espelid in Askøy, according to VG.

On Tuesday, the identification of Campylobacter in the drinking water in Askøy in Hordaland was confirmed. This is a bacterium that can cause stomach and intestinal infections. More than 60 people have been admitted to Haukeland Hospital in the last six days, among them 15 children.

The police have opened an investigation into the municipality. According to TV 2, the cause is a probable breach of the drinking water regulations.
