Telia’s head office in Oslo has received a threat following an advertisement showing a woman throwing the hijab. Telia has experienced a storm of complaints after the commercial aired.

“At 11.11 we received a report from the head office of Telia. We are investigating this case now. It’s about a threat,” says operations manager Gjermund Stokkli to Dagbladet.

The police do not believe the threat is real, but have put down an assessment group to assess the threat and investigate the case. The police were present at Telia’s headquarters on Tuesday.

Telia has received many complaints after last week’s released of a new commercial on social media. The commercial shows, among other things, a woman who takes off the hijab, and at the same time encourages to be safe, free and herself. Both customers and the public, especially the Muslim community responded to the message they think Telia is sending out, according to Nettavisen.

“We can confirm that the threat is directly linked to the advertisement,” says Kristian Fredheim, Communications Manager in Telia, to Nettavisen.
