One building on Henrik Wergeland Street burned down and two others on the same street were severely burned in a fierce blaze in Kristiansand city early on Sunday.

‘The message from the fire department is that they have control in the sense that it will not spread further’, said operations officer Eyvind Formo of Agder Police in a press release at 6 am Sunday morning.

Guests at Thon and Comfort Hotels were evacuated and temporarily placed in Ernst Hotel.

‘Guests at both evacuated hotels have now been told they can return. It is primarily smoke danger in fire’s vicinity that makes it necessary to evacuate guests’, said Formo.

A policeman was rushed to the hospital emergency room for suffering what the police describe as ‘minor injuries’. Otherwise, there were no reports of injured or missing persons during or after the fire.

Formo told the news agency NTB, that a Sea King rescue helicopter was called in to search the rooftops of the fire area to check if any people had sought refuge there.
