Rail Administration and the Swedish Transport Administration have agreed on a series of measures to develop the railway between Oslo and Gothenburg. The goal is to increase capacity on the route.
This is good preparation for the cross-border development of a railway between Norway and Sweden, said the Regional Director of National Rail, Sjur Helseth, in a statement.
The study’s goal was to assess how capacity for both passenger and freight traffic can be improved. On Monday, the joint report was presented to the Ministry of Transport.
The report concludes that it is necessary to double the entire length of railroad to facilitate further improvements for freight traffic, as well as for higher frequency and reduced travel time for passenger traffic.
“Although initially the agencies acted somewhat differently, the collaboration in the study project has been good. It is very good that we in the agencies now agree, and it is important for the railroad to be whole on the Swedish end as well,” said unit chef for strategic planning, Håkan Persson, the Swedish Transport Administration.
