Two people have died in a traffic accident on the E39 at Sira in Oslo, police said.

Police in Agder reported at first that there had been a serious accident where a truck and a passenger car were involved. Shortly after came the message where it was confirmed that two people have died.

– The accident happened at the Vest-Agder-side of the tunnel. However, we have sent units to the location to assist because Agder Police are thinly staffed, said operations manager Tor Helge Hallstavik in South West police Stavanger to Stavanger Aftenblad. Hallstavik said that the two victims sat in the passenger car.

Leif Terje Munkejord was one of the first who came to the site after the accident, according to Aftenbladet. He was on his way to Southern Norway.

– While I called emergency services, my wife ran, who is an intensive care nurse, to check the people who were in the passenger car. She noted that both were dead. They must therefore have been killed instantly, said Munkejord.

The car was heading south. In the truck, which was heading north, there were two people. Their condition is unknown.

E39 is closed to all traffic at the accident site at Sira Tunnel near Flekkefjord in Vest-Agder.
