Two Polish men living in the Netherlands have been sentenced to long prison sentences in Oslo district court after attempting to smuggle large amounts of amphetamine into Norway last year.

The two Polish men aged 27 and 49 years old, are sentenced to ten years and nine months in prison and nine years in prison respectively.

The men explained to the customs officers that they were going to Norway to fish pike, reports Radio Norway.

The two arrived in Oslo with the ferry from Frederikshavn in Denmark last June. The police were called after the customs scanner revealed drugs in the men’s mobil home.

Hidden in a compartment under a cabin in the mobil home, was hidden almost 40 kilos of the stimulant drug amphetamine. The Penal Code considers a holding of 3 kilos of amphetamine or more to be a “very significant amount”.

The older man has declared his guilt of punishment, but the younger man claims he did not know about the drugs in the vehicle.

The drugs have a street value of between 5 and 15 million kroner.
