The Islamist Ubaydullah Hussain explained during a remand Thursday that he wanted to resign as spokesman for the Prophet’s Ummah and withdraw from political and religious activity.
The Oslo District Court nevertheless decided in favor of the requirement by Police Security Service (PST) of four weeks’ detention for Hussain when the issue was resolved in court on Thursday.
Hussain filed for release when the remand hearing started. He told the judge that he last fall had decided to resign as spokesman for the extremist group the Prophet’s Ummah at the end of the year. Moreover, he would not be active in any other religious or political groups or take any public role.
As justification the 30-year-old gave familial considerations and work and health conditions.
