The Directorate of Immigration (UDI) has decided to start a major downsizing at Råde Arrival Centre .

The arrival center was built last autumn when asylum seekers were at a record level. After several quiet months a downsizing is due, according to Dagsavisen.

– We have kept open over the summer, as we said in the spring that we would.

We now see that there are few arrivals still, and it is therefore reasonable to adjust the workforce, says Christian Wisløff , the UDI manager responsible for the arrival centers in Råde and Kirkenes, .

Several agencies are involved in the operation at Råde, including a Police Immigration section which has 60 staff at the center. In addition, Hero has 45 employees and Østfold Hospital 15 staff. The size of the downsizing is not known.

When the center opened it had the capacity to receive 500 asylum seekers per day, whereas now it can handle up to 250 residents.

Downsizing is part of an extensive downscaling of the Norwegian asylum readyness. The Immigration Authority has announced that over 7,000 reception places across the country will be wound up as a result of far fewer asylum seekers arriving than previously thought.
