United States Foreign Affairs Committee meeting

Parliament’s Foreign and Defence Committee travels this week on an extensive visit to the United States.

 

Under the auspices of Arbeiderpartiet’s Anniken Huitfeldt, defence and foreign affairs politicians will visit New York on Monday and Tuesday before the trip continues to the US capital, Washington DC.

In New York, the committee will meet a number of UN organizations, including the UN Children’s Fund, the UN Central Humanitarian Coordination Unit (OCHA), and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The committee will also visit IBM Watson Labs and meet representatives of leading media.

Norway’s candidacy for the UN Security Council in 2021-2022 will be discussed during UN meetings.

In Washington, the Committee will visit Congress,the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Defence, and the US National Security Council.

The Norwegian politicians will also have meetings with think tanks and analysts.

US policy towards NATO, Europe, Russia, and the Middle East is of major importance for Norwegian foreign, security and defence policy.Transatlantic relations and the relationship between Norway and the United States will be addressed during the
meetings.
