Several major online services, including Twitter and Spotify, were closed on Friday in parts of the United States because their ISP (gateway) was knocked out by a cyber attack.

Besides Twitter and Spotify, Netflix and Visa were also among those affected.

Internet service provider Dyn informs that company’s server infrastructure in the United States was subjected to a DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service), just after 13:00 o’clock Norwegian time.

DDoS attack is that attackers overload a website excessively in such a large scale that the website becomes unavailable.

Dyns server system returned to normal again later on Friday.
