A woman in Vestfold who moved away from her residence and left two cats without food and water has been convicted of a breach of animal welfare law.
The woman in her 40’s moved from a rented apartment in Vestfold in February last year.However, two cats were left in the home. The state prosecutors in Vestfold,
Telemark and Buskerud prosecuted the woman for breach of the animal welfare act because she left the cats without food, water or a suitable living space.
The woman fetched one cat after about one week, while the other was later found by a neighbour and delivered to Animal Protection.
For a month, the cat had lived outside, screeching at night and appearing desperate.
It was warming up on car engines and tried to get in with the neighbour in the morning wrote Tønsberg district court in the verdict. The cat was visibly emaciated and appeared to have shabby fur.
The woman did not meet at the court for the lawsuit against her in Tønsberg district court this week.The trial was still conducted and the court sentenced the woman to a conditional prison sentence of 26 days with a probationary period of two years. This means that she does not have to go to prison if she does not commit new offences during probation.
