The unemployment rate among young people in Oslo is the highest in the country. Almost one out of ten young men, who are between 20 and 29 years old, is considered as unemployed or in a process of losing their job.

On Monday Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Labour and Social Affairs Minister Anniken Hauglie were visiting unemployed people in Stavanger.

– It is no coincidence that we are here today. The figures for Rogaland are very high. We see that youth unemployment is high and that many of those who lose their jobs have not completed high school or have limited skills, said Hauglie to the local newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.

40 percent of the unemployed people have not completed high school and for them, it will be harder to find a job.
– In future, it will become harder and harder to find a job without formal qualifications. More and more jobs will require some form of expertise, said Truls Nordahl director in Nav Rogaland.

In late May the unemployment rate in Rogaland was measured to 4.3 percent, compared with 2.9 percent elsewhere in the country. The unemployment rate for people between 20 and 24 years in the same county is measured as 5.2 percent. Two-thirds of the young unemployed people are men.
